How to achieve Ultra High Standard

Certain cargoes to be loaded could require very high cleanliness specifications, or the so called “ultra high-clean standard”. These cargoes are indicated by a bold font of the letter. In such cases, additional cleaning will usually be necessary to pass the wall wash tests.

Depending on the circumstances, achieving the required inspection standard could be very
difficult and in such cases it is recommended to seek expert advice.

Removal of cargo traces

(indicated by a failure of the UV Spectrum, acid wash or NVM tests):
Wash the tank again with a fresh cleaning solution. Note. Dirty and/or saturated cleaning
solutions could leave cargo residues behind.

Removal of residual hydrocarbons

(indicated by a failure of the Water Miscibility/Tyndall test):
Wash or spray the tank with a suitable Hydrocarbon Remover, or a non-flammable and non-toxic solvent (e.g. glycol ether).

Removal of chlorides

(indicated by a failure of the Chloride Test):
Wash or spray the tank with DI water.

Improvement of colour

(indicated by a failure of the Colour Test):
Wash the tank with a bleach solution.

Improvement of PTT test

(indicated by a failure of the Permanganate Time Test):
Wash the tank with a bleach solution.

Removal of odour

Wash or spray the tank with an odour remover/deodorizer
