Tyndall Test

Tyndall Test is a simple qualitative test to detect residues of hydrocarbons in methanol or acetone wall wash samples by means of shining a pen light at right angles through a sample tube containing a mixture of the wall wash sample and distilled water, usually at a ratio of 1 : 3 (wall wash sample to water).

UV Test

UV Test is used to determine the purity of wall wash and cargo samples. Many hydrocarbons have a unique UV fingerprint which allows them to be specifically identified, rather than just being determined as present or not, in accordance with the hydrocarbon/water miscibility test. For example, aromatics, carbonyls, esters, nitriles.  This test requires a UV/Vis spectrophotometer.

NVM Test

NVM Test to detect the presence of Non Volatile Matter (NVM) in volatile solvents by means of evaporation. Usually measured in mg of NVM per 100ml of solvent.
